Our Changing Places NL standard
To provide the Changing Places NL label, Joint Project uses the international Changing Places standard as well as the current Building Decree Living Environment and the NEN-EN standard 17210 and NEN 9120 standard (effective from January 2025).
The conditions for a Changing Places toilet include:

- A minimum surface area required of approx. 12m2.
- An internal free turning circle with a diameter of 2.1 metres.
- A ceiling height of at least 2.5 metres for mounting a hoist.
- Specialist aids, consisting of: an electrically height-adjustable washbasin, toilet, changing table and a lifting device on a rail covering the entire room.
- The walls and ceiling must have sufficient load-bearing capacity to support the installation of the aids.
- A specific electrical installation is required for the Changing Places toilet to function properly. Thus, in case of power failure, the various aids must continue to function.
- Among other things, the controls must provide for control of heating, alarms, emergency lighting, door automation, sound system, etc.
- There should be a person in the vicinity of the changing toilet facility to assist in case of emergency.
- Employees should be trained in using the Changing Places toilet and treating visitors with severe disabilities.
- Integration into a site’s operations.
- Thematisation of space for optimal perception and experience.
